Christopher Peterson is the Legal Director for the ACLU of Nevada. In that position he oversees the affiliate’s case docket, supervises its legal staff, and often provides direct support to its litigation team. During his tenure the affiliate has aggressively and successfully protected civil liberties protected by Nevada and federal law related to free speech, voting rights, government transparency, police surveillance, and reproductive freedom, among others.
Prior to joining the ACLU, Chris worked as a Deputy Public Defender at the Clark County Public Defender’s Office where he litigated a wide range of constitutional issues including illegal searches and seizures, due process violations, and challenges to the constitutionality of laws related to marijuana and firearm possession. He also had the privilege of representing indigent individuals in jury trials before Eighth Judicial District of Nevada.
Chris received a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
