ACLU of Nevada Activates Protest Hotline and Legal Observers for Statewide 'No Kings' Protests

LAS VEGAS – The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada, the state’s largest civil liberties and civil rights organization, will activate its Protest Rights Hotline and deploy legal observers and volunteer canvassers to the “No Kings” protests in Reno, Las Vegas, Henderson, and Elko.

In advance of what is expected to be an even larger protest than the June “No Kings” demonstrations, ACLU of Nevada is providing Know Your Rights materials for protesters that will be distributed at the events. The organization also has an intake form to report a violation of First Amendment rights at the protest and has established an emergency hotline to address issues statewide.

“The First Amendment protects every Nevadan’s right to speak truth to power, to march, and to demand change without fear. Protesting lies at the heart of our democracy, and every Nevadan, no matter their viewpoint, has the right to make their voice heard without fear of intimidation, violence, or unlawful arrest. We encourage protesters to stay peaceful, stay aware, and know your rights. To anyone who might seek to undermine protests by engaging in conduct that isn’t protected, don’t disgrace yourself or attempt to undermine what will be one of the largest nationwide protests in recent memory. Anyone who experiences or witnesses violations of the right to protest tomorrow can report them through our intake form or contact our hotline. Together, we will build a Firewall for Freedom that doesn’t allow the government to trample on our First Amendment rights.”
