On April 28, the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada filed a lawsuit on behalf of two students who reported ongoing discrimination and harassment at school and were subsequently ignored by school officials.
Ethan Bryan and Nolan Hairr were sixth graders at Greenspun Junior High School and were physically and verbally bullied based on their perceived sexual identity. The students and their parents reported the abuse, but were ignored and marginalized by teachers, administrators, and others in the Clark County School District (CCSD).
When the school and CCSD failed to take action to protect the students, the ACLU of Nevada helped the families file a complaint with the Nevada Equal Rights Commission (NERC) on July 18, 2012. NERC has yet to take action on the case.
The lawsuit, Bryan and Hairr v. Clark County School District, et al., was filed in Nevada's Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County.
