Three key provisions of the Patriot Act were set to expire on February 28, 2010. After the House of Representatives extended those provisions until December 2011, the Senate decided to keep the entire Patriot Act as-is for another three months. The House concurred with that plan, and the bill is headed to the President.
This is good news and bad news. The bad news is obvious: we still have the Patriot Act in its entirety for another three months. The good news is that we now three more months to convince Congress to reform the Patriot Act and bring it in line with the Constitution so that it can no longer be used to violate the rights of people who have nothing to do with terrorism.
We've got three more months - let's use them! Tell Congress that there's nothing patriotic about the Patriot Act!
