Volunteer and Internship Opportunities
Because the ACLU is a nonprofit organization with limited resources, we rely on volunteers to help in every aspect of our work. The ACLU of Nevada is always looking for volunteers to help respond to complaints, to do routine office tasks, to take legal cases, to write for our newsletters, and to do graphic design, among other things.
Most of our volunteer opportunities are either our Las Vegas or Reno office. Some volunteers make a regular weekly commitment to volunteer, others help out at periodic events or public education programs.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada’s Student Legal Program gives law students the opportunity to work as part of the ACLU of Nevada’s legal team in Las Vegas, Nevada. We seek law students with excellent academic credentials and, most importantly, a desire to learn about the ACLU of Nevada’s work. Applicants are encouraged to submit materials by August 3, 2015 through www.aclunv.bamboohr.com/jobs. Should you require a more immediate decision due to pending funding, please advise and we will attempt to accommodate. Learn more about our Student Legal Program.
Being a volunteer with the ACLU of Nevada—in any capacity—means standing up for freedom. Your time and effort help ensure our civil rights and civil liberties continue to be protected in Nevada and across the country. To start volunteering, complete this simple online form, or download it (pdf) and email it to email@example.com or mail it to one of our offices.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) Volunteers
Help us reach Spanish-speaking communities and educate individuals about their civil rights. The ACLU of Nevada is recruiting professional and dedicated volunteers to provide support in improving outreach to Nevada’s Spanish-speaking population. Duties will include reviewing Spanish-language complaints filed in our office and translating written materials from English to Spanish. These materials may include “Know Your Rights” pamphlets, press releases, flyers, and other public education/outreach materials. Volunteers may also, as time and interest allow, assist the ACLU of Nevada with outreach to Spanish speaking communities through educational presentations and by giving guidance to Spanish-speakers who need assistance filing complaints with our office. Volunteer positions would be based in Las Vegas, with remote work arrangements possible in some instances. Hourly commitment and scheduling is negotiable and based on the mutual needs of the ACLU of Nevada and the volunteer. For more information, please us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteer attorneys with the ACLU of Nevada provide pro bono legal representation to people whose civil liberties have been violated. These volunteers include sole practitioners, recent law school graduates, some of the nation’s most prominent lawyers. If you are an attorney and are interested in learning more about volunteering with the ACLU of Nevada’s legal program, please complete this form and send it to email@example.com.
The ACLU of Nevada has an ongoing board recruitment process. We are looking for Nevadans who are interested in becoming new board members in the near future as well as individuals who have an interest in serving on the board and its committees in the coming years. Committees include the Annual Event, Board Development, Finance, Fundraising, and Human Resources Policy Committees. We encourage you to review and fill out either an expression of interest form or a form to nominate candidates. You can submit them to us by talking with with a board or staff member, or by emailing them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Help support the ACLU of Nevada by donating your gently used or new books. All profits from the sale of the books benefit the ACLU of Nevada. You may drop books off at either of our offices during normal business hours.
