ACLU of Nevada and NAACP of Las Vegas Submit Petition to U.S. Justice Department

The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada and the NAACP of Las Vegas on Friday submitted a petition to the U.S. Department of Justice calling for the federal department to conduct a “patterns and practices” investigation of the Metropolitan Las Vegas Police Department.

ACLU Calls for Investigation of Metro by Justice Department

On December 6, District Judge Philip Pro ruled that the new Coroner's Inquest process in Clark County does not violate officers' rights. The officers argued that the new process violated their Fifth Amendment right of due process.

ACLU of Nevada Responds to Coroner's Inquest Challenge

On August 26, the ACLU of Nevada responded to the lawsuit filed by the Police Protective Association (PPA) that attempts to stop all Coroner’s Inquests of officer-involved homicides in Clark County. The PPA, representing the first officers to be involved in a death since the new Coroner's Inquest process was implemented in December 2010, argues that the police officers rights are violated under the new Coroner's Inquest.
