Rebecca Gasca Recognized as a Front-Line LGBT Hero
Rebecca Gasca, the ACLU of Nevada's Legislative and Policy Director, has been named a Northern Nevada LGBT Hero in the 2011 Pride Guide. Rebecca is the ACLU of Nevada's primary lobbyist at the legislature. She is on the ground in Carson City fighting for liberty and equality every single day of the 120 day session.
Because of Rebecca's work, the work of the entire ACLU of Nevada family, and a broad coalition of organizations and activists, the rights of LGBT Nevadans have taken many giant steps forward. In 2009 Nevada recognized domestic partnerships between same- and opposite-sex couples, and also banned discrimination in all public accommodations based on sexual orientation. This session, Nevada prohibited employment discrimination based on gender identity and expression, offered protection from discrimination based on gender identity and sex in places of public accommodation, and prohibited housing discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression.
Rebecca was selected as an LGBT "Front-Line Hero" because of her work "as a lobbyist in Carson City, a moderator for the community's discussions and a champion of equality."
The ACLU of Nevada thanks Your Gay Reno for recognizing Rebecca and the ACLU's work of advancing equality for all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, in Nevada.
