The bill requiring automatic DNA collection of arrestees died in committee on Monday evening. Assembly Bill 552 would have mandated collection of DNA from anyone arrested for a felony, whether or not DNA is necessary to investigate the crime, and whether or not the individual is ever charged or convicted of the crime.
If you are arrested for a felony in Nevada, you still have the right to remain silent, but your DNA could be headed straight to a national DNA database.
On Tuesday, May 11, the Nevada Senate approved AB221, a bill that would outlaw workplace discrimination against LGBT individuals in Nevada. The bill passed the Senate in a close vote of 11 to 10, and on April 18 passed the Assembly 29 to 13.
Three bills to make Nevada’s government meetings more democratic will be considered by the state Senate’s government affairs committee at 9 a.m., Monday, May 2. They already have been approved by the Assembly.
