The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada and the NAACP of Las Vegas on Friday submitted a petition to the U.S. Department of Justice calling for the federal department to conduct a “patterns and practices” investigation of the Metropolitan Las Vegas Police Department.

On December 6, District Judge Philip Pro ruled that the new Coroner's Inquest process in Clark Countydoes not violate officers' rights. The officers argued that the new process violated their Fifth Amendment right of due process.
On August 26, the ACLU of Nevada responded to the lawsuit filed by the Police Protective Association (PPA) that attempts to stop all Coroner’s Inquests of officer-involved homicides in Clark County. The PPA, representing the first officers to be involved in a death since the new Coroner's Inquest process was implemented in December 2010, argues that the police officers rights are violated under the new Coroner's Inquest.
