Reno City Council Approves Benefits for Domestic Partners
Submitted by Paige Thie White on Thu, 08/27/2009 - 16:16.On Wednesday, the Reno City Council voted unanimously to approve extending health insurance benefits to the registered domestic partners of City employees. The ACLU of Nevada applauds the Council's vote and hopes that other cities in Nevada will do the same.
"The principal issue of human dignity, human relations, we simply don’t put a precise price tag on those things," said Lee Rowland, Northern Coordinator for the ACLU of Nevada. "Now, any couple can share their life together."
Pre-Registration for Domestic Partnerships Begins August 24
Submitted by Paige Thie White on Wed, 08/19/2009 - 13:54.The Secretary of State’s Office recently announced that couples wishing to register as domestic partners may pre-file their declaration starting August 24. The domestic partnership law will go into effect on October 1. Couples who pre-register will receive their domestic partnership certificate on October 1.
Celebrate Domestic Partnerships in Nevada!

The gala celebration hosted by Harrah's Entertainment and planned by the ACLU of Nevada, the Gay and Lesbian Community Center, the Human Rights Campaign, and PLAN, will take place at the Rio Hotel & Casino ballroom, June 25, from 5:30PM to 8:00PM. It will be a chance for everyone in our community to gather and recognize this important moment in our state's history.

With a handheld camera, Anthony Romero, director of the ACLU, documented the debate for and against same-sex marriage. While legal arguments were made inside the California Supreme Court, the crowd gathered outside made their public opinion arguments known. It's a true First Amendment moment, where all points of view are defended by the ACLU.

ACLU of Nevada Hosts MILK Screening Party

Las Vegas ACLU staff, supporters, and friends turned out on Tuesday, November 25 for an advance screening of MILK. The new film, starring Sean Penn, chronicles the life and times of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay public official in the United States.
